Annual Scholarship Award

Each year, the Palms West Chamber raises funds to provide scholarships to worthy high school seniors from seven local high schools, including Glades Central, John I. Leonard, Palm Beach Central,  Pahokee High School, Royal Palm Beach, Seminole Ridge and Wellington Community High Schools.  In addition, two At-Large scholarships are awarded to a student who resides in the western communities but attends school outside the west central geographic area of Palm Beach County. 

Scholarship funding is raised through the annual Holiday Parade which takes place each December in Wellington and is made possible by the Chamber’s partnership with the Village of Wellington and parade sponsors.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must attend school in the areas served by the Palms West Chamber of Commerce. Two “At-Large” scholarships will be selected for a student that lives in the chamber served area but attends school outside the area (example Suncoast, Dreyfoos or a private or charter school). 
  • Students must be enrolled in a public or accredited private school, or registered as a home school student with the Palm beach County School District.
  • Candidates must continue their education beyond high school beginning no later than January, 2013.
  • Candidates must have a cumulative (un-weighted) GPA of 3.5.
  • Candidates must submit a completed application packet, explained below, to the Chamber Scholarship Committee by March 1, 2012.
  • Candidates who are selected as finalists must appear for an interview with the Scholarship Committee on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 beginning at 4:00 pm.   

 

Application Package

  1. Enclose an official (signed and sealed) high school transcript (including first semester grades for the 2011-2012 school year).  Be sure your address of your legal residence and telephone number where you can be reached is on your transcript.
  2. Enclose one letter of recommendation (any source excluding family member or self).
  3. Enclose your responses to the following:
    • List in bullet form your involvement in non-school related clubs, civic organizations, and volunteer work.   Be specific as to time involved and actual duties performed.
    • List in bullet form your academic achievements and involvement in school organizations.   Be specific as to time involved, actual duties performed, and offices held if applicable.
    • Explain in narrative form why this scholarship is important to you (300 words or less).
